“Thoughts on Mentoring” 

On January 8, 2016 senior faculty in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences lead a conversation about the kind of mentoring that will help early-career faculty to be successful at Oregon State University and the skills senior faculty can use to become more effective mentors.

“The Effects of Harassment and Assault on Scientists’ Careers”

On January 26, 2016 in partnership with the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, OREGON STATE ADVANCE hosted a conversation titled with Kathryn Clancy, PhD. Prior to the event, the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences hosted a luncheon to discuss the PLoS ONE article by Dr. Clancy and her colleagues titled, “Survey of Academic Field Experiences (SAFE): Trainees Report Harassment and Assault.”

“The CO• ‘STEM to STEAM’ Symposium”

On April 8, 2016 OREGON STATE ADVANCE served as one of thirteen university and community sponsors of a transdisciplinary conversation on the challenges and rewards of integrating the Arts into STEM education, which featured Oregon Representative Suzanne Bonamici and four additional speakers. 

 "The Only Woman in the Room"

Eileen Pollack delivered a talk based on her book The Only Woman in the Room: Why Science is Still a Boys' Club on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 7:30pm at the Library Rotunda. She also gave a craft talk on research and fiction at 4:00pm.
