Application Criteria

Eligibility

  • The Faculty Fellowship program is available to all OREGON STATE ADVANCE Seminar graduates from STEM departments.
  •  Applicants must document their eligibility with their college dean and academic unit administrator before applications will be considered (see “Application Process and Content”). The statement from the academic leader should indicate
    • How the work will be included in the position description; for example, the work may be included as service, assigned duties, scholarship, etc.; and,

Program Expectations and Requirements

  • Faculty Fellows will be appointed for a 12-month term with the expectation that approximately 80 hours will be dedicated to fellowship-related work during that time period. A more detailed distribution of effort will be determined in collaboration with the OREGON STATE ADVANCE Leadership Team once fellows are selected with a general expectation for meaningful engagement as a fellow over the course of the appointment period.
  • Engagement as a fellow includes an expectation for making intellectual and process contributions to the work of ADVANCE at Oregon State University
    • Participating in and promoting some of ADVANCE’s university-wide initiatives;
    • Attending at least one ADVANCE-sponsored event during the appointment period; and,
    • Helping the fellow’s college make progress on college-specific initiatives that are congruent with the goal and objectives of ADVANCE.   Precise details regarding these contributions will be incorporated into the discussion about distribution of effort.
  • A written report of the project’s accomplishments and plans for ongoing work will be required at the end of the fellowship. If appropriate, participating in an ADVANCE panel to share the work is encouraged.

Award

Each fellow is given a $3,000 award, which will be managed by the ADVANCE program. Funds must be spent within the 12-month award period. Award funds may be used for any state-approved expense such as:

  • Business-related travel expenses such as meetings of professional associations or for research activities; and business-related meals or hosted professional functions.
  • Books, journals, and other scholarly materials.
  • Manuscript submission fees.
  • Capital equipment, research equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Summer salary and OPE.
