Congratulations to ADVANCE Co-PI Dr. Tuba Özkan-Haller who has been appointed to serve as Associate Vice President for Research Administration and Development effective April 1! See excerpts from the announcement by Dr. Irem Y. Tumer, Vice President for Research, Interim. Well Done Dr. Özkan-Haller!
"Dr. Özkan-Haller is a Professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS). She joined OSU in 2001 after 3 years as a faculty member at the University of Michigan, and she has been serving her college as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Advancement since 2017. She has also been a co-PI of the OREGON STATE ADVANCE program since 2014.
As Associate Dean, she led the research development and faculty advancement efforts of the college and oversaw research facilities and infrastructure. She put in place formal faculty and research development efforts and worked on inter-disciplinary team formation so that OSU can be more responsive to federal funding opportunities. She also exerted national influence through her two terms as a member of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), and her participation in multiple NASEM studies.
Dr. Özkan-Haller received her PhD degree in Civil Engineering, at the University of Delaware. Her research program focuses on achieving a predictive understanding of the nearshore ocean. Dr. Özkan-Haller built a successful inter-disciplinary research program and participated in large campus-wide efforts, including the Pacific Marine Energy Center. She is passionate about communicating science to the public and has appeared in numerous documentaries produced by the History Channel, the National Geographic Channel, and Oregon Public Broadcasting. She is the recipient of the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, the Outstanding Faculty Member Award at the University of Michigan as well as the Pattullo Award for Excellence in Teaching Award and Woman of Excellence Award at OSU.
In her new role as Associate Vice President for Research Administration and Development Dr. Özkan-Haller will be leading the Office of Sponsored Research and Awards Administration as well building the research development capacity, providing the strategy to meet the needs of OSU’s growing research enterprise. Drs. Özkan-Haller and Staci Simonich (Associate Vice President for Research Operations and Integrity) will help me build the new culture of the research office."
